Pennsylvania schools choose Sprigeo as their student online reporting tool for bullying and school safety incidents.
Principal Lisa Duval of South Allegheny Middle School plans to introduce Sprigeo to her students next fall as part of a comprehensive bullying prevention program.
In partnership with funding provided by The Womack Company, schools who sign up by December 31, 2011 will pay only $300 for their subscription. (A 70% reduction in first-year fee for service.)
Jason Womack, CEO of The Womack Company says, ³It is very important that students have a safe place to go each day to learn, improve and build their life-long networks. We¹re delighted to provide this support to Sprigeo and the schools who benefit from this program.²
The brainchild of former classroom educator and university professor Joe Bruzzese, Sprigeo brings together cutting edge technology and security to create a safe solution for reporting bullying incidents and school safety concerns. ³Kids want to feel safe. Submitting a paper and pencil report comes with the fear of possible retaliation or increased abuse. Sprigeo gives kids a tool to talk about their safety concerns and get immediate help from their school,² says Bruzzese.
The Sprigeo online reporting system arrives at a time when many school districts are struggling to come into compliance with state-mandated reporting legislation. New Jersey, Texas, North Dakota and Massachusetts recently amended their existing laws to include reporting as a mandatory part of each school¹s bullying prevention program. Pennsylvania Representative Michael O¹Brien introduced HB 879 in March that would further amend the state¹s law to include ongoing reporting of bullying incidents.
Students use the Sprigeo site to send an average of one report per school site each day. Schools respond when they receive reports. Students trust the Sprigeo site as a trusted source for reporting safety concerns. The net result: a reduction in bullying and school safety incidents.
